Alberta Health Services (AHS) is Canada’s first and largest province-wide, fully-integrated health system operating at 650 facilities including 106 acute care hospitals. Over 108,000 skilled and dedicated health professionals and support staff promote wellness and provide health care every day to over four million people in Alberta and neighboring provinces. Developing strong leadership is a high priority and providing leaders with the skills to lead coaching conversations is being built in the organization so that everyone has access to coaching support for their ongoing development.

Alberta Health Services partnered with Bluepoint Leadership Development in 2011 to offer the Leader as Coach program in support of multi-level coaching initiatives for new, experienced and executive leadership levels. Leader as Coach is also a recommended component of AHS’s Leadership Competency Development Program and has been highly successful in building a coaching culture at AHS. Most importantly, a transfer of learning has been demonstrated by changed behavior in the workplace that has resulted in improved relationships and increased engagement.

Developing leaders with integrity and intention

When looking for a coaching program, we found that the Leader as Coach program helps leaders form more authentic and engaging relationships with their team members to help them achieve their best, even beyond what they may have thought possible. A groundswell is happening in our organization with a coaching becoming a key skill for leaders from our most senior executives to the frontline - Bluepoint has played a key role in this shift. From the talented and supportive team to the program materials, Bluepoint has proven to be a valued partner whom I would wholeheartedly recommend to others!
