American Airlines, Inc (AA), is a major American airline headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. With an average of nearly 6700 flights per day to nearly 350 destinations in more than 50 countries, it is the world’s largest airline when measured by fleet size, revenue and scheduled passenger-kilometres flown.

American Airlines engaged Bluepoint in 2014  in a large scale integration / transformation initiative following the merger/acquisition of US Air, one of the most important times in the airline’s long history. This large scale development, Airport Leadership Program, is based on the Leader as Coach. One of the most critical objectives was to build a more collaborative and coach-like culture to help bond the two former competitors together in service of the customer. This program was designed, in conjunction with pieces of AA’s existing leadership curriculum, to address the changing needs of the front-line managers (2500+) in the Reservations and Airport Operations divisions. The three day program included customized Leader as Coach, Emergenetics and Engaging Your Employee modules.

After the classroom experience, each manager was also offered the opportunity to work with a Bluepoint application coach to help them personally apply the workshop learnings into their own individual roles within AA. Many participants noted that this was a career-changing experience for them and dramatically increased their commitment to leading the effort to help restore American Airlines to the greatest airline in the world. This program is now a recurrent offering of their leadership development training and is a required staple for all front-line managers at AA.
