There was a time when teaching new skills and processes was a sporadic task for leaders. With the onset of near-continuous change in today’s organizations and marketplace, this is no longer the case. Today, leaders need to be continually equipping their team members with new capabilities. Teaching has become a critically important leadership practice. Unfortunately, many leaders are still relying on the only teaching methods they know – the methods they were exposed to in their own formal education. While these methods may suit the formal teacher-to-student situation, they are ineffectual in work environments which require much more of an adult-to-adult learning partnership.
