Matt is a Senior Facilitator and Leadership Coach with a passion for developing leadership effectiveness and navigating change. He is an ICF Coach and brings proven strategy, people and change leadership expertise in both Fortune 500 and mid-market organizations.
Matt has been fortunate to work with and develop at progressive companies such as BMW, Unilever, Menasha Corporation and Compass Group. At FoodBuy Canada, Matt held a senior leadership position tasked with a growth agenda, starting with important operational and cultural transformation in collaboration, accountability, and operational design.
Matt also held a senior director position at Menasha Packaging for several years, with the responsibility to amalgamate five supply functions into one operating unit. He was responsible for a +$100M supply chain, a team of 300+ employees, P&L, and strategy. In addition, Matt held a director of business integration role in which he established a new business unit to serve Unilever Canada after Menasha entered Canada via acquisition.
During his time at Unilever, Matt experienced his first leadership development program and coaching engagement. Shortly after, he decided to obtain his coaching certifications and began taking programs and certifications ever since. As Matt’s corporate career progressed, he took on increasingly complex projects on business transformation and used these experiences as his own personal “leadership laboratory.”
As a full-time Executive Coach and Facilitator for the past two years, Matt’s diverse functional and industry background have enabled him to relate with a breadth of clients and client agendas. Matt actively partners with leaders in c-suite, executive, senior management and high-potential roles. He has been fortunate to coach leaders in numerous industries, including: banking, commercial real estate, consumer packaged goods, food and beverage, health care, oil and gas, plastics and chemicals, professional services, retail, technology, and utilities.
Most notably, Matt coached the direct report of a Chief Officer in one of Canada’s top-five banks to conduct a 360 assessment. He partnered with the client to prioritize insights and translate them into a development plan. Matt has also coached a VP of a US-based organization which ranks in the top 50 in Forbes’ 2022 rankings of the best large employers in the US. The coaching engagement focused on maximizing the leader’s candidacy for a chief officer role.
Regarding Matt’s facilitation engagements, he has facilitated a multi-staged leadership development journey for a group of 22 AVPs for a large retailer. Matt has also delivered a multiphased leadership development program for a multinational chemical company and a group of people leaders from across Europe. Another notable facilitated engagement included a facilitated three-hour discussion on Tough Conversations and Feedback for a group of fifty senior leaders, pharmacists, and nurses at their annual meeting.
Leaders are experiencing new challenges and opportunities as the world recovers from a global pandemic. As a coach, Matt partners with leaders to explore their context to distill their most impactful priorities and explore leadership approaches that may no longer serve them moving forward. Some of the most common post-pandemic coaching topics include: mindset and core beliefs, energy burn, strategic influence, thought leadership, facilitating important information flow (via coaching, feedback and tough conversations), and recalibrating the balance between doing and relationships.
